Dr. Ryan's Mailbag: How Can I Stick To My Skincare Routine? Plus More...

Hello and welcome to another Mailbag Friday! My name is Dr. Ryan Shelton and if you’re not sure what a mailbag is, it’s when I answer two questions from customers who need a little help in the skincare department! My first question this week comes from Frances in Richmond, VA.

Q: Hello Dr. Shelton! I really want to get rid of the wrinkles I have in my skin but I really struggle to stick with my skincare routine. I guess I can be a little lazy sometimes. Can you help me fix this?

A: Hi Frances! I completely understand how sticking to a skincare routine can sometimes be challenging, especially when it comes to addressing specific concerns like wrinkles. Don't worry; I'm here to help you get back on track and achieve your skincare goals!

Consistency is key when it comes to seeing results in skincare, so today we’ll work together to find ways to make your routine more manageable and enjoyable.

First, let's make sure your skincare routine is as simple as possible!

It’s always a good idea to tailor your skincare routine to your specific needs and lifestyle and focus on the essential steps that target your concerns.

For wrinkles, incorporating a good cleanser, a quality moisturizer with anti-aging properties, and a broad-spectrum sunscreen is the bare minimum.

Keeping your routine quick and simple with these three products might help you to make sure you’re sticking to your routine each day!

In fact, I have both an anti-aging cleanser and a peptide-rich moisturizer in my store that can help smooth your skin and help decrease the wrinkles in your complexion!

I think you’ll find that keeping your routine simple with these products is more than enough to help you stay consistent and get the results you want.

Another great tip is to try setting a daily reminder on your phone or putting your skincare products in a visible place where you won't forget to use them.

Forming a habit takes time, but with gentle reminders, you'll find yourself reaching for your products consistently.

Keep in mind that the journey to smoother skin doesn't have to be perfect, and occasional slip-ups are okay. If you miss a day or two, don't stress about it. Just get back to your routine as soon as you can!

Good luck, Frances!

My next question comes from Bridgette in Vancouver, WA.

Q: Hi Dr. Ryan. I’m 45 years old but I look like I’m 10 years older than I am. I never took very good care of my skin before so I don’t know where to start. What should I do?

A: Hi Bridgette! I understand your concerns completely, and it's never too late to start taking good care of your skin. Let's work together to create a skincare routine that will help you look and feel your best!

First, don't be discouraged by the past. Starting now will still make a significant difference in the health and appearance of your skin, so it’s important to focus on what you can do to get the skin you want moving forward!

So without further ado, let's break it down and find a plan that works for you!

First up, you’ll need to begin with a gentle cleanser to wash away dirt and impurities. Look for one that fits your skin type, so it won't dry you out or cause any irritation.

A great option for you would be my Lavender Oil Cleanser which helps to cleanse the skin effectively without stripping it of its natural oils.

As you age, your skin is going to get drier, and drier skin often shows more wrinkles. That’s why having a cleanser that doesn’t strip your skin is important!

Next up, hydration! You’ll need to moisturize your skin to keep it plump and nourished, but it’s a good idea to choose a moisturizer with peptides and other anti-aging ingredients so that you can get to work on helping decrease your wrinkles and fine lines as well as giving your skin a healthy glow. My Repair and Release Cream is a great option as far as this is concerned!

Don't forget sun protection! Use sunscreen every day with at least SPF 30 to shield your skin from the sun's harmful rays.

For a bit of extra help, you might want to explore collagen-stimulating products like the Collagen Filler Serum from my store. This particular product can help improve skin texture and reduce fine lines by promoting collagen production, which is super important if you want to start taking the years off your complexion.

Now if you haven’t been practicing a daily skincare ritual, I think this is a good place to start. There are other types of products you can use to help you get even better results, but I don’t want to overload you.

Keep it simple to start, and you can always add on products once you’ve formed a daily skincare habit.

And remember to reach out if you have any more questions! I'm here to support you on your skincare journey, so let's get started and help you look and feel your best!
