Dr. Ryan's Mailbag: How Long Does It Take To See Results? Plus More...

Hello! My name is Dr. Ryan Shelton and now that it’s finally time for the Friday Mailbag, I’m going to answer a couple of questions from customers who need some skincare advice! My first question comes from Bertha in Macon, GA.

Q: Hi Dr. Ryan, I've been using some skincare products I bought for almost 2 months and they don't seem to be working. How long should I wait to start seeing the anti-aging results I want?

A: Hi Bertha! I understand your frustration, and it's not uncommon to wonder when you'll start seeing results from your skincare products, especially when it comes to anti-aging concerns. Let’s take a look at a couple of factors that could influence how long it takes you to see results.

Generally, it's important to remember that skincare results can vary from person to person due to factors like individual skin type, the products you're using, and the specific concerns you're addressing.

When it comes to anti-aging products, visible results can take time…

Most skincare professionals recommend giving new products a minimum of 3 to 4 weeks to start showing noticeable changes in your skin. However, for some people, it might take a bit longer, even up to 12 weeks or more.

The skincare products you are using also make a difference. For example, based on feedback from my own customers, I know that my line of anti-aging products can start to show the first signs of a difference from 2 weeks onwards.

So if you’re struggling with fine lines and wrinkles, you should start to see them fade after about 2 weeks of using my Repair and Release Cream.

After that, with continued use, your results should only improve!

During the first little while, you might experience subtle changes, such as improved hydration or smoother texture. These changes can be an early sign that the products are working beneath the surface to address your concerns.

For more significant anti-aging results, it's important to be patient and consistent with your routine.

If you've been using the products consistently for around 2 months and still haven't seen the results you were hoping for, it might be worth reassessing your routine.

Try my Repair and Release Cream and see if it makes a difference! I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

My next question comes from Denny in Bellflower, CA.

Q: Hi Dr. Ryan! I wasn’t very good at protecting my skin this summer. What can I do to reverse some of the damage done?

A: Hi Denny! I totally get where you're coming from – summer can be a busy time, and sometimes our skincare routine takes a backseat. But no worries, we can definitely work on undoing some of that sun damage and getting your skin back in shape!

First things first, let's hydrate! Drink lots of water to give your skin a good dose of moisture from the inside out.

Next up, moisturize. Get yourself a nice, nourishing moisturizer to lock in hydration and help repair your skin's protective barrier. Look for ingredients like Shea Butter, squalane, and peptides.

All three of these ingredients are in my Repair and Release Cream, which will help to rehydrate your skin and get it glowing again!

And even though summer is behind us, sun protection is still key. Put on sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every morning to prevent more damage and give your skin a chance to heal.

For a bit of a refresh, exfoliate gently once or twice a week. This helps remove dead skin cells and lets the fresh, radiant skin underneath shine through.

A great way to do this is with AHAs and BHAs, which are two key ingredients in my Lavender Oil Cleanser, and will help to remove all those dead and damaged skin cells to reveal a more radiant complexion underneath!

Antioxidants are also your pals. Look for products with vitamin C to fight off those free radicals caused by sun exposure and help your skin heal.

As an added bonus, vitamin C will help to keep any dark spots that you may have developed at bay, and it will also help create a more even skin tone, which may be something that you’ve lost with all the sun exposure.

My Dark Spot Corrector has a few antioxidants, including Vitamin C, so using this twice a day all over your face will help you create that even skin tone!

Keep in mind that healing takes time, so be patient. Keep up the good skincare habits, protect your skin from the sun, and you'll start seeing your skin bounce back and glow in no time!
