For many of us, having a flawless complexion is something we put a lot of time and effort into but can sometimes feel like it’s just out of reach. We apply a ton of different skincare products and can do our best to cover up imperfections with makeup, but we don’t always get that flawless, smooth complexion we want.
One of the hardest things to cover up for many of us is enlarged pores. While some may tell you that it’s possible to make your pores smaller, this is nothing more than a myth – it is impossible to shrink the size of your pores permanently.
The Truth
The truth is that the size of your pores has a lot to do with genetics and age – as you get older, your skin naturally loses its elasticity which can make your pores appear larger. This doesn’t just happen to the skin of your face either — you may also notice larger pores on other parts of your body such as your chest or back.
While this may be disappointing news for those who are doing all they can to create a flawless complexion, there are some temporary steps you can take to minimize their appearance.
What You Should Do
First and foremost, it’s important to maintain healthy skin care habits such as cleansing twice daily and exfoliating regularly (but not too often), which will help keep dead skin cells from clogging and enlarging the look of your pores.
Using steam or a warm towel to open up your pores before cleansing will help unclog them, and a gentle yet effective cleanser is the key to helping flush your pores of any dirt which will help create a smoother appearance.
What You Shouldn't Do
Heavy makeup products like full-coverage foundations might offer a more flawless look, especially if you’re worried about blemishes and dark spots, but since they tend to settle into your pores, they will only make them look bigger over time.
Instead, opt for lighter formulas, and be sure to properly remove all traces of your makeup at the end of the day to make sure your pores stay fresh and clean. Whatever you do, don’t go to bed without washing your face!
Unfortunately, you can’t actually shrink the size of your pores permanently no matter what product you use – this is simply because of things beyond your control. That being said, a good cleansing routine can go a long way toward helping create a more flawless appearance!
