Dr. Ryan's Mailbag: How Do I Get Rid Of Dark Circles From Lack Of Sleep? Plus More...

Hello! My name is Dr. Ryan Shelton and now that it’s Friday, it’s time for my weekly mailbag. Today I’ll be answering two questions from customers just like you who want to see amazing results in their complexion. My first question comes from Amanda in Minneapolis, MN.

Q: Hi Dr. Ryan, I have been struggling to sleep recently and have gotten really bad dark circles under my eyes. What can I do to get rid of them?

dark circles from lack of sleep

A: Hi Amanda! There aren’t a lot of things worse than a sleepless night, and as I’m sure you now know, they can take a toll on your skin. Luckily, I have a couple of great tips that are going to help you lighten your dark circles and hopefully get a better night’s rest!

As the weather gets warmer, it’s common for people to have more trouble sleeping since the heat can make things so uncomfortable.

The less sleep you get, the less time your skin has to repair itself so it can look refreshed in the morning!

Dark circles are always one of the first signs of a lack of sleep, so you’ll want to tackle those right away with a powerful brightening eye serum.

Using a serum - like my Eye Recovery Serum - is a great start to help make those dark patches vanish.

With ingredients like Dragon Fruit Extract which has a ton of brightening vitamin C, it’s a great way to help you look more alert and awake in the mornings.

Another thing you can try is ending your day with my Lavender Oil Cleanser.

As you probably know, Lavender is a very calming scent that can help you relax and unwind, which may help you get to sleep more easily.

On top of all the great benefits like cleansing your pores and making your complexion more radiant, it’s a fantastic way to get you into a bedtime mindset and could be a huge key to helping end your sleepless nights.

I hope you manage to get some rest soon, but until then, I’m confident these tips will help you out!

My next question comes from Barbara in Eugene, OR.

Q: Hi Dr. Shelton, I have a very busy schedule this summer and don’t always have time to do my whole skincare routine in the mornings. How can I make my routine shorter and easier?

how to shorten your skincare routine

A: Hi Barbara! This is a common question I get, and I have a few suggestions that may help you figure out which products to make a priority in the morning.

We all know that being consistent with your routine is essential if you want to see results and keep your skin healthy, but sometimes it can be tough to stick to it every day, especially if your routine is too long.

My professional advice? Keep it simple.

Having too many products in your routine might set you up for failure since it’s so time-consuming.

I am a big fan of simple yet effective routines for that exact reason. But how do you know which products to cut out?

Of course, you never want to cut out your cleanser. It’s what keeps your skin healthy and safe from bacteria and germs!

And if you’re using a powerful yet gentle cleanser like my Lavender oil cleanser, you’d be starting your routine on a really great note.

The next thing you need to have in your routine is a moisturizer with added anti-aging effects.

If you’re wanting to see some wrinkle-smoothing results, any old moisturizer won’t work, you’ll need something with age-reversing peptides like my Repair and Release Cream, so make sure you choose wisely!

Lastly, never leave the house without your SPF!

You’ve probably heard it thousands of times, but it’s so important to make sure your skin is protected from the sun’s rays during the day to prevent any damage or further aging.

If you have any other specific concerns when it comes to your complexion you can always add products that will help them, like a Dark Spot Corrector or a Neck firming Cream.

Otherwise, these three products will do the trick if you want to keep your routine short and sweet.

I hope this helped, Barbara. Thanks for reaching out to me!
