Hello and welcome back to another Mailbag Friday! My name is Dr. Ryan Shelton, and every Friday I answer questions from customers just like you who have run into some roadblocks when it comes to their skincare. Today I’ll be answering two great questions from Mary and Bridgette about their eye area.
Mary is in El Paso, TX, and this is what she asked this week:
Q: Hello Dr. Ryan. I want to start using an eye serum because I’ve noticed some dark patches under my eyes, but I’ve never used any eye products before so I don’t know what I’m doing. Can you help me?
A: I’m so glad you came to me with this question, Mary! I’d be honoured to give you some tips on how to use an eye serum in the most effective way possible so you can keep your skin healthy and see those dark circles start to fade away.
Using an eye serum around your eyes is important because other types of products like moisturizers and creams could be too harsh on the delicate skin in this area.
Knowing exactly how to use an eye serum is important, too. If you’re using it incorrectly, you could cause some damage and make dark circles, fine lines and puffiness worse than they already are.
The number one rule I always tell my customers is to make sure you’re applying your eye serum twice a day.
Keeping this area protected should be your main priority, so you’ll want to make sure it always has access to brightening and smoothing ingredients like the ones I have in my Eye Recovery Serum.
Another rule to follow is to make sure you apply your eye serum before you put on your moisturizer.
You want the ingredients in your Eye Recovery Serum to soak in first to help treat your dark circles - by using it before your moisturizer, you’re making sure it doesn’t have to soak through any other products before it gets to your skin and starts to lighten your eye area.
Lastly, always use your pinky finger to apply it. Any other finger will pull and tug on your skin, which could cause more damage and signs of aging to show up!
I’m happy that you’ve decided to start using an eye serum for your fragile eye area - as long as you stick to these application tips you should start to see some great results in no time!
My next question is from Bridgette in Phoenix, AZ:
Q: Hi Dr. Ryan. I’ve always had some lines under my eyes, even when I was young, but now they’re getting worse and I want to get rid of them. How can I do that?
A: Hi Bridgette! There are a lot of ways you can help decrease the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines under your eye area, but I’m going to tell you about some of my favourite tricks that I’ve seen work for so many of my customers…
You mentioned that you’ve always had lines under your eyes - this is quite common - unfortunately, it means that you may start to see wrinkles and crow's feet show up sooner than others.
Since this is the case, you’ll need to be very consistent with using an eye serum under your eye area. Like I told Mary earlier, consistency should be your number one rule.
In my professional opinion, you’ll also need to focus on the ingredients you're using if your main concern is wrinkles and fine lines. That means using an ingredient like Hyalusphere, which is a key ingredient in my Eye Recovery Serum!
Hyalusphere acts as a filler, so it’s the perfect ingredient to help create a smoother, tighter under-eye look.
Injectable fillers are a common treatment for crow’s feet and under-eye wrinkles, so using an ingredient like Hyalusphere is a pain-free way to help get you the same effect without paying for an expensive procedure!
Another ingredient that’s in my Eye Recovery Serum that can help you is Dragon's Fruit Extract.
This ingredient is incredibly hydrating, and since dryness around the eye area can cause your wrinkles to become more obvious, you’ll want to make sure your eyes are moisturized at all times.
So to sum up my best advice for you, I’d recommend staying consistent with your eye routine and trying ingredients like Hyalusphere and Dragon’s Fruit Extract. I’m positive you’ll start to see a decrease in your wrinkles and crow’s feet once you try these tips!
