Dr. Ryan's Mailbag: What Lifestyle Changes Can Help Me Look Younger? Plus More...

Hello, and a huge happy Friday to you! My name is Dr. Ryan Shelton, and I’m ready to unravel the secrets to radiant and age-defying skin with answers to questions from customers who have reached out for my help. Our first question of the day comes from Shirley in Paterson, NJ.

Q: Hi Dr. Ryan. I just turned 60 and want to start changing a few things in my life. Are there lifestyle changes I should make to make my skin healthier?

A: Hi Shirley! As we enter our 60s, our skin deserves an extra dose of love and care for several reasons, and if we’re not mindful of what it needs, we could see signs of aging start to take over our complexion. I’m glad you asked this question because I have some great tips for you! Let’s get stuck in…

The first and maybe most important tip I’m giving you is to stay on top of hydration.

This simple yet effective habit supports skin health and promotes a radiant complexion, and it can also help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines!

Not to mention, there are countless benefits it has on the rest of your body too, so try and stay mindful of your water intake each day.

Of course, a great way to keep your hydration levels healthy in your skin is to make sure you’re using a high-quality moisturizer that keeps your skin protected from water loss during the day. This will give you an extra layer of protection and will also help keep signs of aging like wrinkles at bay!

A balanced and nutrient-rich diet is another lifestyle change you can consider as your ally.

Incorporate foods high in antioxidants, such as fruits and vegetables, to combat oxidative stress and promote skin vitality.

Antioxidants can also pack quite a punch in your skincare routine, so try adding something like Retinol into your daily skincare ritual to help transform your skin and keep it looking youthful and glowing!

Lastly, never underestimate the power of a good night's sleep. Aim for around 8 hours of quality rest to allow your skin time to rejuvenate and repair, and if you can find an overnight mask that helps repair and rejuvenate your skin while you sleep, even better!

Creating healthy habits can be one of the most effective ways to help care for your skin and your body. Embrace these lifestyle adjustments, and you'll foster a supportive environment for healthy and radiant skin!

Our next question comes from Diane in Temple, TX.

Q: Hi Dr. Ryan. My skin is showing a lot of sagging and I want to fix that. What can you suggest?

sagging skin around the neck

A: Hi Diane! This is an excellent question that resonates with so many people who are navigating the natural changes that come with time. Sagging skin and loss of elasticity often go hand in hand with the aging process, but fear not – there are strategies to address these concerns and unveil a more lifted and sculpted complexion!

Sagging can come into play when you don’t have enough collagen in your skin to help keep your complexion supported and firm.

As we age, this becomes more and more of a problem, so it’s important to think about using ingredients and products that help rebuild your lost collagen.

Try incorporating targeted treatments into your skincare routine to stimulate collagen production and improve skin elasticity. Ingredients like retinol are known for their ability to promote skin renewal and firmness and can make a huge difference when it comes to helping reduce sagging!

Another ingredient that would be a good choice for you is caffeine, believe it or not!

Caffeine isn’t just great for helping you wake up in the morning - it helps wake your skin up too!

It does a fantastic job of constricting blood flow, which can have a tightening effect to help reduce sagging and create a more sculpted look.

It’s also one of the ingredients in my Neck Firming Cream, which is so popular amongst customers of mine who have had a hard time trying to create a firmer appearance.

Remember, Diane, the key lies in consistency and embracing the journey with patience and self-love.

With thoughtful lifestyle changes and targeted skincare practices, you can enhance the natural beauty that comes with each passing year!
